Kerrie Harle from Eyes Wide Shut Hair
This month we are celebrating the talent of a stylist who who gives us regular rainbow inspiration, and we caught up with her to find out a little bit about this hair magician…
Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist?
So I decided to become a hair stylist at the prime age of 14, since that day I have thrived off making people feel and look magical , not to mention the artistic flare I have always had for hair and art….just put it this way, all my barbies had skin heads!
How did you get your start in the industry?
I had a great start into the industry, I did my apprenticeship at a local independent hair salon who let me push my boundaries from a young age, entering in to various in salon hair competitions and going to see shows. I loved it!
What inspires you?
I have so many things that inspire me, the list is truly endless but here are a few- nature and my surroundings and the elements, flowers and sometimes I even dream of a colour I want to create! I have so many I still want too make real!
I’m a big believer in if you see a colour combo then snap it, store it and do it. Last week I saw a lovely bra and the colours were gorgeous together, I took a picture on my phone and I thought YES I need to create this in hair form!
Art is a big inspiration for me…also I just love the punk and rave scene…..and graffiti ….and neon glowing goodness!
Who inspires you?
My first inspirational person I ever later eyes on I must say was the hair bestie him self Guy Tang! And then I went on to discover Rebecca Taylor and then an array of other boomtastic artists such as Neal M, Jaymz Marsters, Alix Maya and many more of the unicorn tribe members I have had the pleasure of connecting with so far! I am a big believer in supporting fellow stylists. Whether it’s a like or a comment, it’s very important time to keep the good karma rollin’🙌
What is the biggest challenge when using vivid colour?
My biggest challenge when using vivid colour is making sure my clients follow my strict aftercare steps to ensure we don’t get that dreaded phone call or message ‘it’s faded after one wash’ !
And how do you overcome that challenge?
To overcome this challenge i always drill it in to them the strict aftercare steps to maintain their new unicorn locks, wash in sulphate free shampoo, cold water, low heat, i even message them again to see how they are getting on with their new colour and check they are following the rules 😝
Why do you use Manic Panic?
I use manic panic because its the friggin bomb!?
Also it’s the only brand I have come across that actually fades to tone, has the brightest pigments, the most amazing consistency and lasts the longest!
Also another big big factor for me is that it’s vegan! And so am I!
What is your #1 hair care tip?
My main hair care tip is to use professional products that your stylist recommended and regular haircuts and top ups every 6-8 weeks to keep your unicorn mane looking fresh!
