The Manic Panic colours are better suited to pre-lightened hair levels such as levels 7-10 as these base colours are much more capable of visually intensifying the colour and displaying its true tone, whereas when these vivid shades are applied to a darker base they tend to get lost in the natural dark pigmentation. An extremely light blonde pre-lightened base is also beneficial as not only does your colour become more vibrant, but the colour will last for much longer due to the high porosity of the hair strands that have occurred since bleaching.

The lightest blonde hair base, level 9 is not quite a white blonde but is a stunning pale colour that will have you well-equipped for many Manic Panic shades and produce vibrant results for all colours that have turned out on any level below.  However, if you find that you wish to use some of our palest shades such as from the pastel hair dye range, silver/grey, light blues or the Manic Panic Virgin Snow toner then you may consider pre-lightening your hair a little further.  A level 9 is still an extremely light colour but also counts as the darkest shade that these products can take to whilst still having a chance of achieving their true colour potential.

You can often find when pre-lightening your hair to these extreme shades that you may get some brassy tones throughout your hair. Once you have decided on your new colour, it is important to consider how these yellow hues within your base may interact with the new colour. Adding a blue dye to a yellow-based colour can cause a few problems such as appearing more green than blue – especially when using light blues or blue-based shades. Adding a warmer shade such as purple to your blue can help to offset this green effect.
