Manic Panic black hair dye is PPD free just like all the other colours in the Manic Panic range which is unusual for a black hair dye. PPD is often found in dark shades of permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes, but Manic Panic Raven creates delicious dark tones without the nasty chemicals.

Does Manic Panic make black hair dye?

Manic Panic makes a black hair dye called Raven. Raven hair dye gets its name from the blue undertones. In certain lights, a shimmer of dark navy blue will shine through giving beautiful midnight sky vibes. This colour is perfect for pairing with all kinds of Gothic and alternative looks.

Many black hair dyes have a green base which means if you are using temporary or semi-permanent black hair dye it will fade to show the green tones but with Manic Panic Raven black you can enjoy a subtle fade to dark blue which in itself is a stunning colour. So you can avoid those awkward green tones peeking through with your Manic Panic black fade.

Just like all Manic Panic hair dyes, Raven Manic Panic is made using the vegan-friendly and cruelty-free Manic Panic formula. Tish and Snooky planned every detail when creating the famous Manic Panic brand in 1977. This means you can enjoy a conditioning formula that will help your hair stay feeling healthy and strong. They are passionate about keeping nasty chemicals out of their hair dye so you won’t find any PPDs in this tub of colour.

How long does Manic Panic Raven last?

Just like all Manic Panic High Voltage semi-permanent hair dyes, Raven lasts for 4-6 weeks. How you care for your hair and how often you wash it can determine how quickly your hair dye fades. Taking extra steps can help to keep your new colour looking fresh. Here are our top tips to help your Manic Panic hair dye black go the distance:

  • Wash your hair as infrequently as possible and in cold or lukewarm water to prevent the colour from running.
  • Avoid using heat styling products such as hairdryers, straighteners, and curling tongs. If you do want to style your hair with heat then make sure to use a heat protect spray.
  • Avoid submerging your hair in chlorinated water as this can strip the colour quickly.
  • Avoid too much sunlight directly on your hair – now is the time to start experimenting with hats! But don’t worry about covering your head too often as we want you to enjoy showing off your new hair colour too!
  • Use colour protect products such as Manic Panic’s haircare range. Choosing a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically designed for dyed hair will keep your hair away from any harsh chemicals found in other products.

Unlike other shades of hair dye, Manic Panic Raven can be used to cover any hair colour. The intense dark pigment and rich tones mean that Manic Panic raven on brown hair should have no trouble giving full coverage. If you are looking to experiment with dyeing your hair but don’t fancy trying out pre-lightening your hair then you can skip the bleach and opt for Manic Panic raven.

To apply your Manic Panic black hair dye start by covering all your surfaces and swapping your clothes for a super old T-shirt and towel as hair dye will stain. Put on your protective gloves and cover your hair with Manic Panic black dye using a tint brush. Next, take your comb and comb through your hair until it becomes frothy. This will help give even coverage. Allow the hair dye to process for about 30 minutes before thoroughly rinsing your hair to reveal your new black hairstyle.

Any time you are planning to dye your hair it is important to do a patch test before applying the hair dye. This will test for any allergies and sensitivities to the dye. To check how the hair dye will look on your hair, you can always perform a strand test too.

Black Manic Panic looks amazing when applied to all your hair for a sleek shiny look but there are other styles you can try out with your black hair. One of our favourites is a peek-a-boo design. To achieve this separate your hair into sections. Apply the Manic Panic black dye to the top layers of your hair and then opt for a bright and vibrant colour underneath. Whether you want a full rainbow or a single shade, a pop of colour is a fun way to enjoy a new style but it can be hidden away if needed. Tie your hair in a ponytail or braid the top layer of hair to reveal your fun little colour accent.

You can also style your Manic Panic temporary black hair dye with colourful tips. Create a blended ombre style by adding a dark colour such as Midnight Blue or Forest Green or add a vibrant pop of colour for a contrasting dip-dye style with shades such as Rock N Roll Red and Sunshine Yellow.
