Avoid Products Containing Sulphates
Many cleansing products will use sulphates; these are considered a strong cleaning ingredient that creates a lather when worked well. Unfortunately, sulphates are not considered beneficial to hair. Although they may remove dirt, they also strip the natural oils from your hair, leaving it feeling particularly dry and frizzy. This result is not ideal in any sort of weather condition, but in the cold, this hair type is likely to snap and break much more easily.
The Manic Panic Not Fade Away Shampoo and Keep Color Alive Conditioner are both sulphate-free formulas. These cleansing products have been designed with dyed hair in mind, but are also a great alternative for hair in general.
Water Temperature
We often talk about how important water temperature is if you want to achieve long-lasting colour, but did you know how important it is for a healthy base too? Hot water is known for stripping the natural oils from your hair; these are particularly essential in achieving a healthy hair journey. When you wash your hair, use lukewarm or cold water if you can. This will close your hair follicles and allow your scalp to continue producing these necessary oils.
We spoke to Manic Panic ambassador Emma Pullen, who touched on the importance of water temperature, no matter the season “Even though the colder weather is setting in, don't be more inclined to turn up the water temperature! Remember, colder water is essential for your vivids. Keep it cooler for your colour to last longer despite the cold outside!”
Deep Conditioning
It’s always nice to be able to sit back and treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment, but time isn’t always on our side. During the winter, we highly recommend using a conditioning mask weekly. The combination of the elements during this season is likely to draw out the moisture in your hair; with a treatment-based product, you can inject that missing hydration straight back in!
The Manic Panic Mermaid Hair Repair Mask has quickly become one of our favourite hair care products for both our hair and our colour. This extremely beneficial product contains ingredients such as Quinoa and Shea Butter, which have been included to help boost a silk result and repair surface damage. Emma mentions how beneficial this product is, especially during the cold weather: “Mermaid mask for moisture, being in the cold all day, and then coming back into the warmth isn't good, so moisture needs to be added so the hair doesn't dry out.” Treat your hair to a weekly pamper with the Manic Panic Mermaid Mask!
Avoid the winter fade
The winter can cause your colour to fade, due to its ability to strip the hair of its natural oils and moisture retention. With little hydration, your colour can become quite dull, so having a colour boost now and then is the perfect way to keep on top of your colour. Setting up your station for a fresh application isn’t always necessary; try a colour-depositing agent that provides easy application and instant vibrancy!
The Manic Panic UK Love Color™ Colour Depositing Conditioners are available in 15 different colours, from natural brown tones to ultra-bright yellow and green hues! Fortified with colour and care in mind, these products not only feature an abundance of pigment but also include several beneficial ingredients that will leave your hair feeling smooth, strong, and protected, while also extending the life of your colour for longer-lasting results.
