Will copper hair suit me?
Copper holds a spectrum of different tones, making it a very versatile hair colour. Not all versions of copper will indeed suit everyone, but thanks to its ability to be manipulated and altered, it is possible to find the right shade of copper to work for you. When choosing your future copper tone, consider attributes such as your skin and eye colour to help make your decision.
Fair skin tones - Those with a light complexion suit copper hues that hold gold and rose undertones. Also, vibrant copper tones are suited to this more pale skin type.
Medium skin tones - Medium complexions and those with an olive undertone might want to look at copper colours with a berry-like tone.
Dark skin tones - Darker skin tones look great with a rich and deep auburn-toned copper hue with dark cherry undertones.
How to maintain copper hair
Copper hair is a beautiful hue for all, but with such high-quality results, it does come with work. Any red hair type requires maintenance to keep the colour looking vibrant and fresh, so this must be considered when choosing if copper is the colour for you! Here’s how you can minimise your colour fading and becoming dull in between your colour applications.
Minimal washes - Every time coloured hair is washed, your colour is likely to fade ever so slightly. If you can, it is best to wash your hair at most every four days as this will keep the fade at a minimum. For those with coloured copper hair, dry shampoo is your best friend!
Sulphate-free products - When it comes to washing your hair, we highly recommend using a sulphate and paraben free shampoo and conditioner. Products that do contain these ingredients can react with the dye and cause the pigment to strip much quicker than expected.
Less heat or no heat - We know that styling your hair without heat isn’t always the easiest thing, but if you can minimise the amount of heat you apply to your hair, the longer your colour will last. When you do use heat on your hair, ensure a heat-protectant is applied and the temperature is turned down. It is also important to be aware of the temperature of your shower water; washing your hair in cold/cool water will keep the pores of your hair closed and, in turn, lock the colour in for longer.
Colour-depositing conditioner - Using a colour-depositing mask or conditioner in between your colour applications will help you to keep your colour looking fresh and vibrant for longer! Apply as and when you need, in place of your regular conditioner for an intense colour refresh.
