Pretty Little Panic Halloween

This Halloween, Manic Panic ambassador @emdoeshair232 has been busy with the Manic Panic UK hair dye and has done a great job getting us all in the mood for the spooky occasion with her latest Halloween campaign. This October, Emma headed to social media to share with us what she has been getting up to recently in preparation for the Halloween season! We were so excited to finally meet her latest creations for her new collection, Pretty Little Panic.

Pretty Little Panic features three creepy characters for Halloween that have been imagined and designed by Emma herself, each of which has been completed with a fresh new pink semi-permanent hair colour using the Manic Panic hair dyes. In this blog, Emma takes us through where her ideas and inspiration came from for this collection; we also look into the hair creations themselves and how you at home could also create a similar look.

Emma’s creations

Marcelline Noctura - This first look by Emma features her model wearing what appears to be a modernised plague mask, complete with silver metal details around the eye holes and around the seams. In Emma’s description of this look, she describes this character as ‘a clash of elegance and menace’ with girlish curls as well as rebellious features too!

For this hair colour creation, Emma used Manic Panic Pink Warrior for the top and main panel. Underneath, a custom tone of Alien Grey, Pink Warrior, and a small drop of the Black Kat Love Color™ Colour Depositing Conditioner. Pink Warrior is a beautiful, bold pink shade that immediately captures the attention of others. Mixed with the cool tones of Alien Grey, this combination edges towards a charcoal yet still creatively colourful result, complementing this pink hair Halloween costume perfectly!

Penelope Gore - Dressed perfectly pink, this character hides her identity with a pig mask and carries a bat wrapped in barbed wire as her weapon. This super sweet, yet obviously dangerous, character dresses in contradicting colours and textures, combining light pink hues with deep black tones and lighthearted ruffled sleeves with an accentuating corset; we can’t ignore those beautiful tonal pink curls!

If you like the look of Penelope Gore’s hot pink and pastel pink hair combination, try these popular tones for your pink Halloween hair. For this look, Emma chose to use Pretty Flamingo throughout the main body of her model's hair, a gorgeous light pink shade with a slight peachy undertone. Through the ends of her model's hair, Emma applied Pussycat Pink. One of the most popular pink shades from Manic Panic, Pussycat Pink, is an intense neon pink hue that holds some serious main character energy!

Lunette Bliss - A clown-faced character that appears cheerful and girlish but hides a monstrous attitude. For this look, Lunette wears a playful costume featuring a white tutu and large red pompoms down the centre of her top, and complete with a ruffled collar. The super cute clown costume is a deceiving disguise to attract Lunette's future victims, not to mention how her vibrant pink space buns exude cheer!

If you consider yourself a Manic Panic Dye Hard, you’ve probably already got an idea of Lunette’s hair colour, but if not, for this look Emma kept things simple and bright with the iconic Hot Hot Pink pink hue! This bold and fiery pink hair dye doesn’t hold back on vibrancy and depth; it is perfectly suited to this character, and its bright pigmentation matches the fun energy of this hairstyle too.

We were able to find out some more information about Emma’s thought process when creating this Halloween project; dive into some of her answers to help inspire your own ideas and future projects!

How did you come up with the concept for Pretty Little Panic?

I came up with the concept Pretty Little Panic, from my love for scary movies, the 90s and pink! I had a vision in my head that I wanted it to be scary but fluffy, and I wanted it to have a retro feel to it, too. Old school Halloween, but with a girly twist. I feel I got that and more!

What tips do you have for someone with upcoming plans to produce creative hair for a photoshoot?

Tips and tricks would be to plan! Start by creating a mood board, and choose your scene and your models wisely. I am lucky I have the best clients who have now become my friends, and are happy and up for anything!

I loved looking through Pinterest to try and find images and inspiration that suited what I wanted to create. I knew in my head what I wanted my models to wear and the setting I wanted to create. I wanted each character to have a story and a background, like we have seen in scary movies like Halloween; everyone has a story to tell.

How do you prepare your models for the shoot?

My models and I chose a style which I knew their hair could withstand throughout the duration of the shoot, but also suited the energy of their character I had envisioned. Because I had worked with my models' hair before, I knew just how their hair would lift and what colours would work well with them too.

I am super lucky to have them trust me the way they do, and they're so supportive! Get clients like mine! They're amazing, amazing people! We have created such a bond, and I now have friends for life who support me and my ideas no matter what.

Do you have any tips for working with pink hair dye?

Pink definitely needs to be on the right base; choose your base wisely, or your pink wisely. Pre-tone if you need to for your pink to be better and brighter. The darker your base, you’ll want to choose the more vibrant and deep pink you'll want to use. For lighter pastel pinks like Cotton Candy Pink and Pretty Flamingo, you'll need at least a level 9/10, and it needs to be cleaner for the pink to really shine.

We hope that you enjoy this Halloween-themed Manic Panic project as much as we do! We love how Emma has managed to demonstrate using a wide selection of our pinks across all of these characters; to see more on these looks, visit Emma’s Instagram at @emdoeshair232 to find even more Halloween hair fun!
