If you’re undecided as to just how you plan on dyeing your hair this time around, maybe you’ve been purple before and although you’d love round two you feel you’ve been there, done that - trust us, Manic Panic’s collection of rich purple hair colours will have your mind made up soon with a varying selection of shades to choose from.
From the Creamtones Perfect Pastel hair dye range, Manic Panics pastel purple shade in Velvet Violet is packed full of the sweetest tones for a light and luscious colour. This shade gives us pure anime vibes and we’re loving it. Being a pastel colour, Velvet Violet works best on pre-lightened hair at a level 10; if it is applied to a base colour that is too dark the colour will not show up vividly and will be difficult to see. Some other lightly coloured purple shades from Manic panic are Electric Amethyst, Lie Locks and Mystic Heather, and just like Velvet Violet, you will find with the other 3 lighter shades that they will require a hair-lightening process.
We all know purple can come in several different shades, offering a wide variety to appeal to anyone’s taste. Some of our more bold and rich tones consist of Plum Passion, Fuschia Shock, Purple Haze, Deep Purple Dream and Violet Night. Whilst all committing to the true nature of a purple shade, they are all slightly different in their tones, finishing results.
How can I lighten my hair before applying Manic Panic dye?
If you feel you will need to pre-lighten your hair to achieve your desired colour, and have decided you’re going to fulfil this process yourself you will need to get a pre lightning kit. You can find two bleaching kits on our website, the Manic Panic Flash Lightning Kits in 30 and 40 developer. The kits have already been prepared with the correct ratio, so all you need to worry about is mixing it together properly and your application.
The bleach should be applied to dry, unwashed hair and spread evenly on the hair, being sure that the strands have all been completely saturated. This is best done when using the brush provided in the kit, and gloves should be worn at all times. The length of time that the bleach is left on the hair will differ for everyone depending on the condition and colour of the hair, to begin with. Try checking the hair at 10-minute intervals so you can keep an eye on the development, but do not let the bleach stay on the hair any longer than 40 minutes.
To get your hair as light as possible, you could use our High Voltage toner in Virgin Snow. This will help to get rid of any yellow patches or tints that can be seen in your hair following the process of bleaching.
Along with the softer, more pastelized purple tones at Manic Panic, there is a selection of the highly intensified shades created to complete any classic alt look. Purple Haze, Plum Passion and Deep Purple Dream are just a few of the gorgeously deep-toned colours, guaranteed to result in a truly vibrant and luminous finish.
Within this punky purple hair dye collection, you will find Violet night, one of the darkest purple shades offered by Manic Panic. With its deep blue undertones, this colour will easily combine with others beautifully whether that be by mixing dyes to create a unique colour or applying the dyes to the hair to create a colourful creation such as a split hair look - the options are endless!
The darker colours do make the pre-dying process slightly easier. Due to their darker tones, these shades won’t require such an intense bleaching process compared to the lighter finishing shades which will need to be bleached to a high level to achieve the desired result.
These more vivid colours will still require pre-lightening to a level 8 in order to achieve the vibrancy of the shade, however, these can work on natural hair if the desired look is a subtle hue on the hair rather than something a lot more vivid.
We recommend doing a patch and strand test when using both the bleach and hair dye, this is just to be sure you have no allergies to either product and that the hair will process into the desired result.
Although all of our dyes are semi-permanent and will come out after 4-6 weeks (2-3 weeks for Creamtones colours) maybe you’re looking for something less permanent than that. Have you tried the Manic Panic Amplified Temporary Colour Spray in Mystic Heather? This product is perfect for someone looking to change the colour of their hair on a more regular basis, or possibly just wants to experiment with many colours. The Temporary Spray is very easily washed out, so no strings attached!
