What to expect from the Manic Panic orange hair dyes:

The brighter shades within the Manic Panic orange hair collection consist of Electric Tiger Lily and Psychedelic Sunset. Both of these shades are high in pigmentation and produce a vibrant appearance, however, visibly the results from them both are unique in their own ways.

So let’s look at Manic Panic Electric Tiger Lily vs Psychedelic Sunset.

Whilst some may enjoy subtlety when it comes to their hair colour, anyone that opts for one of these two shades is definitely not looking to hide within the crowd. Electric Tiger Lily is a favourite with the UV hair fans as whilst it continues to effectively glow brightly under black light with its specially curated UV feature, this neon orange dye still impresses in daylight. When applied to a pre-lightened base, you’ll find that as Manic Panic Electric Tiger Lily intensifies you’ll begin to notice some slight hints of a natural ginger tone throughout.

If the preparation for the dye is done correctly, this colour will develop into a gorgeous rich orange begging to be worn with pride. Electric Tiger Lily is expected to last between 4-6 weeks, however, this always depends on how well the colour has been taken care of and how it was maintained from the application of the dye to the complete washout.

Can I use Electric Tiger Lily on brown hair?

Manic Panic Electric Tiger Lily is a very rich colour with its warming tones. However, because of these wonderful attributes, it does mean that this particular colour requires a pre-lightening process to get the hair to at least a level 7 medium blonde to achieve visible results. It is best to apply this shade to a level 9 base to produce its truest, most vibrant appearance. Unfortunately due to its lighter coloured formula, Electric Tiger Lily will not give vibrant results on brown hair.

Vibrant, warm and perfect for summer, that’s exactly how we’d describe Psychedelic Sunset hair to anyone that may be wondering. This beautifully rich shade is packed full of the boldest orange hues which creates a fiery reddish-orange tone all over! If the aim is to make some heads turn with your chosen shade of orange hair, then we seriously recommend trying the Manic Panic Psychedelic Sunset hair dye. This super vibrant shade stays true to its name as it creates blinding results that are sure to get you that attention you’re looking for! For best results, Psychedelic Sunset is best applied to a pre-lightened base of a level 7, medium blonde. You may find that this shade can leave slight orange tints on a light brown base; however, it is unlikely that its colour will be noticeable.

Psychedelic Sunset has such a warmth to it, similar to the Manic Panic Electric Tiger Lily shade, but with Psychedelic Sunset you’ll find that the final result is very striking and almost neon compared to the other orange shades. Lucky for you, this colour also has a regular fade rate that will last you up between 4-6 weeks; however, this depends on how the colour has been maintained etc.

Now that you’ve met the brightest of the Manic Panic orange dye, it might be worth you checking out the gorgeous pastel orange shade that’s available too! Just because bold and bright isn’t your forte doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on adding a pop of colour to your hair.

Within the Creamtones Perfect Pastel collection, you will find Manic Panic Dreamsicle; an extremely light shade of orange that creates a subtle peachy–toned hue on pre-lightened hair. This pale orange shade is formulated with a lot less pigmentation than its fellow orange colours from Manic Panic to give it its true pastel appearance. However, this does mean that Dreamsicle will require some small alterations when it comes to promoting its best colour.

Pastel shades require a pre-lightened base of a level 10. Due to its lack of pigmentation, although it creates a beautifully delicate version of its orange shade, Manic Panic Dreamsicle on brown hair will not be visibly noticed at all. It can also be found with pastel shades that fade a lot quicker than other more pigmented Manic Panic shades again due to the lack of pigmentation in their formulas. Applying them to a level 10 base can increase their longevity to last between 2 and 6 weeks.

How do I go about maintaining my colour, so it lasts longer?

Before dyeing your hair, wash it with a clarifying shampoo. By doing so, you are enabling your hair to absorb the colour in a way that is much easier for it whilst also removing any excess oils and build-up from past styling products. When doing this wash, do not condition your hair. Conditioner can build a barrier on your hair, and this can then affect the result of the colour at the end.

Always rinse your hair with cold water. Coldwater will help to lock the colour in, whereas warm/hot water will open the cuticle and cause the colour to fade much quicker. If you struggle to stand in a cold shower, we suggest washing your hair separately from your body.

Use colour-safe products.

Quite the trick coming up, add some of the dye to your conditioner! When washing your epic new coloured hair, using conditioner with some of your dye added to it will just keep adding to your hair and top up the colour each time it is washed.

Washing your hair too often will contribute to the fading of your colour. This is the best time to discover and start using dry shampoo! If you can make the dry shampoo work with your hair for as long as possible then the longer the colour will last.

Heat is your biggest enemy. Heat will strip the colour from your hair a lot quicker than you had probably expected so consider alternatives and/or protection in situations where your hair may be directly in heat such as heat styling, long exposure to sunlight, and hot water.

The Manic Panic shades of orange hair dye are some of the easiest colours to use when creating your own custom mixes with other shades. They are so versatile and allow creators and colour enthusiasts to experiment with colour and create unique fiery orange pieces with their own hair without the worry of any permanency.
