There are so many different ways that you can include the Pride flag in your hair colour and the Manic Panic users are well known for their creativity and pushing the boundaries to create vibrant and unique results that are perfect for Pride! Take a look at some of our favourite techniques used to bring the rainbow to the forefront of hair.
Rainbow Dip Dye
A very popular hair colouring technique is dip dyeing. Dip-dyed hair has been a renowned style of hair colouring for many years with celebrities such as Florence Pugh and Nicki Minaj having worn the style throughout their career at some point; its popularity continues to rise with many experimenting with different colours and variations of this technique. Rainbow dip dye entails multiple hues, creating a stunning gradient effect that mimics the look of a rainbow. Easily adaptable, this style can be applied to any hair length to provide that gradient effect. Creating a rainbow dip-dyed look involves bleaching the hair tips, usually not exceeding 1-2 inches, to ensure the colours are vibrant, followed by applying different coloured dyes in sections.
This method allows for a great deal of creativity and personalisation whilst also providing a low-maintenance option as there are no issues with regrowth. The colours can be applied straight from the Manic Panic pot to produce its original vibrant tone, or they could be neutralised using the Manic Panic Pastel-izer or conditioner to produce a lighter hue across the colour palette. We love this look by @hairbykyledwyer using a beautiful variety of Manic Panic colours to create this rainbow-inspired dip dye!
Rainbow Face Framing
If you’re looking to create a focal point with your Pride hair, we love the look of face-framing! We often see the money piece incorporated into many blonde looks, creating a brighter face-framing moment, however, this technique is now particularly prominent in the creative colour world too. Why not frame the face with a vibrant and bold collection of colours? That’s what we love about this look by @chezleo38, the seamless blend of this rainbow is perfect for Pride month and makes the client stand out!
To achieve the rainbow face frame, stylists bleach a section of the hair at the very front, whether it be of money piece width or even larger, to a light blonde before applying the different colours in an organised placement. This style can be subtle or striking, depending on the thickness and placement of the dyed pieces. Rainbow face framing is perfect for those who want to make a statement without committing to an entire head of rainbow-coloured hair. This technique is versatile and can be paired with both natural and dyed hair, making it an accessible style for a wide range of people.
Full-On Rainbow Hair
For those who want to fully embrace a Pride hairstyle and make a bold statement, an all-over rainbow hair look is the ultimate choice. This style involves colouring the entire head of hair in a spectrum of rainbow hues to create a mesmerising and vibrant effect. Achieving a true rainbow hairstyle does require a seamless blend of colours that have been placed and applied with care so we do recommend visiting a professional stylist for a look this specific.
Typically, creating an all-over rainbow on the hair does require a bleaching process to ensure the colours hold and appear vibrant. The colours are then carefully applied to a particular pattern or design of your choosing. It should be noted that a complete rainbow look is a commitment, both in terms of the time required to achieve the look and the maintenance needed to keep the colours vibrant. However, should you wish to only dedicate Pride month to this look, the Manic Panic colours allow the colours to fade over time due to their semi-permanent formula; this means that, usually, it is easy to then apply a new colour for the following month. Manic Panic UK ambassador, @emdoeshair232 created a beautiful rainbow look that incorporated several vivid colours that are exceptionally prominent sitting on a custom tone base layer of Siren’s Song and Bad Boy Blue.
We are delighted by all of the creative styles and designs that we have seen over the past month for Pride. We hope that all have had a wonderful Pride full of positivity and celebrations! If you have created Pride-inspired hair using Manic Panic that we have yet to see, it doesn’t matter if June is almost over, we would love to see what you have been getting up to so tag us @manicpanic_uk!
