Sometimes changing your hair colour can be a little daunting for various reasons, but if any year was going to change your mind it was going to be 2022! This year we have seen such a variety of new hair colours and cuts all over our social media and magazine pages; from the mullet come back to the warm tones we relate back to the ‘90s era. With all of this in mind and knowing the way in which these new trends evolve, why not get a head start on what is to come for hair in 2023?

We’ve taken a closer look at what has come from 2022 and which looks could either be following us into the New Year or how they could be of influence on our future hair trends. 2023 is looking like another year for enhancing your look with colour and the options seem to be endless!

The Copper Colour Trend

If we’re talking about 2022 hair colour trends, there is no way we could miss out the copper colour direction that many have been drawn to and is still extremely prominent in this industry. The copper colour trend first arose early this year with the likes of celebrities such as Zendaya debuting her look via paparazzi; however, this isn’t to say that this hair colour hasn’t been in the public eye for many years before.

The copper colour trend is taken as a colour scheme in which it has been adapted depending on certain features, skin tone, personality and more. The classic deep pigmentation of this colour is very much a shade that many have adopted, but others have also drawn influence from it to create their own version. Not only is this a rich tone in itself but we’ve seen how this trend has evolved into many different hues; some prefer a more fiery copper orange hair shade, whereas others choose to explore the deeper more rust-like tones.

Manic Panic UK Sponsored Artist, Emma Pullen created this gorgeous take on the copper trend for her client around the Halloween period. Emma transformed this look from a 10-week vibrant pink fade out by applying her Manic Panic colours, Psychedelic Sunset and Sunshine in thick 2-inch slices before applying her base colour in between. It’s fair to say we love the warm tones within this vibrant copper-like result!

I See Red

Whilst we’re on the topic of redheads, we love the autumn deep red hair colours that have fallen into today's fashion as we have moved into the cooler months. Where the copper hue is ideal for those with a lighter base or willing to pre-lighten their hair to a certain point, these luscious deep red tones are perfect for all those with darker hair.

Red is such a transformative colour that can bring a sense of vibrancy to a natural dark hue and intensify its overall appearance; these shades are usually formulated using a mix of red and purple tones which sit beautifully on darker hair. The way in which you choose to colour your hair can make all the difference when it comes to your result; if you are beginning with a level 3 dark brown you might consider pre-lightening your hair slightly to a level 4-5 in which you could achieve more of a vibrant hue. If you choose to not pre-lighten your hair, a deep red highly pigmented dye can create a subtle hue that appears most vibrant in certain lights.

Affiliate, James Oxley recently took on this trend and created a vibrant blood-red look on a darker base. For this look, James used Vampire Red dye from Manic Panic, one of our deeper shades of red which has created a vibrant hue for his client without introducing so much vibrancy. This is definitely one of our favourite looks for AW 22/23 and we cannot wait to see the warmth of these chic redheads spread even more.

Spring Pastels

Fast forward a few more months, we’re talking spring and every year we get excited for this trend so we’re very happy to see it back and even on the runway. This year, we saw a huge array of fashion and beauty trends hit the catwalk in the SS23 Fashion Weeks that all held the influential potential for next year. We always find that these events are of great significance if you’re looking to change up your look whether it’s your clothing, makeup or your hair!

This year we were especially drawn to the pastel looks that appeared in two of the shows. The Halpern show in London included models with perfectly volumised ‘70s blowouts that had been dyed using soft pastel shades of pink. Inspired by Barbie, these styles were created using different colouring techniques from ombré to peekaboo; they neither disappointed nor definitely fulfilled our spring pastel expectations.

We also spotted the amazing youthful collection from Prabal Gurung. This collection experimented with both colour and texture; as said by V Magazine, Gurung carefully drew inspiration from the next generation. Part of this was the eccentric details that featured within their outfits including how they wore their hair and the colours. Pastel wigs are worn by a handful of these models, each an ideal match to the aesthetic of the clothing and a great representation of what inspired him.

Another of our talented ambassadors, Nicola McMinn created this beautiful block colour pastel look for her client and we are totally inspired by the concept of this. To create these colours, Nicola used Cotton Candy Pink, Lie Locks and Electric Amethyst from the Manic Panic High Voltage range and Sea Nymph from the Creamtones range.

You can also use the Manic Panic Pastel-izer with any of your favourite colours to neutralise the pigment and create a much lighter pastel tone.

The 2023 Mullet

The birth of the mullet definitely did its thing this year with so many of you have been jumping on the trend and not looking back! With its main significance occurring during the ‘70s and ‘80s it was surprising at first to see such a classic hairstyle make its way into the 21st century, but looking at how the mullet has modernised but stuck to its usual characteristics, we are so pleased to see it back!

We first saw this trend take its place in the world of celebrities with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna quickly grasping this cut for themselves; however, a vibrant mullet hasn’t become such a thing within this world. We tend to see celebrity trends as the starting point and as these trickle down they then allow others to put their own twist on them. Since the summer of this year, the perfect mullet has really become a moment and one that definitely suits some colour!

Stylist and Manic Panic UK affiliate, Rhiannon Groovey is definitely a master when it comes to colour and unique styles. Recently we were blown away by an extremely vibrant pink and purple mullet complete with corkscrew curls and an overall essence of fantastic confidence. For this look, Rhiannon used Hot Hot Pink and Cotton Candy Pink alongside Plum Passion and Mystic Heather for a super sweet result!

With the end of the year quickly approaching, we see no better time than to start planning your new hair colour now! We are eager to see the changes you make to your look using the Manic Panic colours for 2023, so remember to tag us on Instagram using @manicpanic_uk.
