Beetlejuice
With Beetlejuice 2 already in the cinemas, we had to include some of our favourite Beetlejuice characters from the 1988 film. This iconic Tim Burton is still a classic for many throughout the Halloween period and even throughout the year for some; with characters such as Beetlejuice himself and Lydia Deetz, fans continue to create their own Beetlejuice DIY costumes over 30 years later.
Create your take on the wild and electric appearance of Beetlejuice with the help of the Manic Panic Electric Lizard hair dye. This colour is a true neon pigment and even glows when under specialised UV black light. Due to its lightly pigmented formula, Electric Lizard requires a pre-lightened very light blonde base to ensure it pops, however, if you plan to become the true Beetlejuice you’ll want to create a light base to match his white and green hair colour combination. Pair your wild and vibrant new hair with bright white face paint and thick black circles around the eyes; add some green details around the mouth and on the forehead to complete your creepy Beetlejuice look.
Another popular identity to create from the Beetlejuice character lineup is Lydia Deetz, famously played by Winona Ryder. Lydia depicts a strong gothic aesthetic through her costume and her jet-black hair is a key feature to successfully execute this. The Manic Panic Raven semi-permanent hair is a true black shade that can be applied to various base colours due to its strong pigmentation. As Raven is such a bold and highly pigmented tone, we recommend ensuring you are ready to commit to this colour as you may find it lasts in the hair for quite some time. Pair with a pale complexion and dark eye makeup to complete your Lydia Deetz Halloween costume.
Alice In Wonderland
The 2010 Tim Burton adaptation of Alice in Wonderland was iconic in so many ways, especially with its visual appeal. The set design, the costumes and the makeup blew viewers away and continues to be a favourite amongst SFX makeup artists and Halloween go-ers looking for inspiration. Characters such as the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the White Queen are great to recreate and their hair plays a key part in easily identifying these characters.
The Mad Hatter, otherwise known as Tarrant Hightopp is a classic Alice in Wonderland character. The Tim Burton character created a surge in Mad Hatter cosplay and his orange hair exaggerates his wacky personality and unique ways. Create your own Mad Hatter look with the Manic Panic Psychedelic Sunset hair dye, a vibrant orange hue that offers an electric and noticeable result! Complete your Mad Hatter makeup with white face paint, red accents around the eyes and cheekbones, and a pair of vivid green-coloured contact lenses.
Also known for their vibrantly-coloured hair in Wonderland is the Queen of Hearts. The Tim Burton character features a bright red hairdo that screams fury and fire! Well-suited to the angsty and abrupt personality of this character, her hair is a beautiful feature that visually describes the energy that she gives. The Manic Panic Pillarbox Red hair dye is the brightest tone in our red collection and embodies the true aesthetic of this character. To make the most of this colour we suggest applying it to a pre-lightened base at a level 8+ blonde. Similar to the Mad Hatter makeup, add a coat of white face paint paired with extended blue eyeshadow over the eyebrow bone and of course, don’t forget that vibrant red lip!
The Corpse Bride
Famous for his stop-motion animated movies, the Corpse Bride is one of Burton’s iconic animated films and continues to be a fan favourite since its release in 2005, often inspiring a variety of unique and bold costumes.
Emily, the Corpse Bride herself features an ethereal pale blue aesthetic that can be seen in her outfit and hair colour. To create your own Corpse Bride costume DIY you’ll want to consider a change in hair colour too; Blue Angel from Manic Panic is a part of our Creamtones Perfect Pastels. This pale blue tone is a great match for this costume, however, it will require a pre-lightened base at a level 10 blonde. You could also try other blue shades such as a mix of Bad Boy Blue with Blue Steel Silver to create a ghostly and shimmering hue. Finish your Corpse Bride makeup look by applying a pale complexion with either a white face paint or a pale foundation with a powder on top to create a soft texture; add some blue details around the eyes and cheekbones and you’re ready to go!
